Mentions of Byzantine Chant in the Imperial Rules

This linguistic analysis of texts first published in the 17^th century aims at identifying the appearance of numerous references to Byzantine chant against the general background of legal and socio-political considerations. Church canon, regional traditions, and especially the feelings of the people feeding on faith in the truth and high value of the sacred texts are identified as the main factors that contributed to the treasured preservation of sacred music exemplified in this case by Byzantine chant.
