Contributions of Moldavian Psaltes in Oltenian Manuscripts
Alexie Buzera's life-long research in Byzantine music enabled him to discover, scattered over a large area of Oltenia, a considerable number of manuscripts written by Moldavian psaltes. Written in Greek and Romanian (using the Cyrillic alphabet) in the Koukouzelian and Khrysanthic notation these manuscripts, now numbering over 100, include to a large extent chants peculiar to this geographical area. Besides them quite a few chants from Moldavia are present, which the author ascribes to the dominating Paissian Influence from Neamţ Monastery. The circulation of those manuscripts is presented in detail.
