Ms. No. 953 from the Library of the Romanian Academy

Although it belongs to the essential treasure of old music on Romanian territory the present ms. No. 953 from the Library of the Romanian Academy, a stikherarion, has been little investigated so far. Aiming at its full transcription and detailed analysis, the work on this ms. is described in its initial phase in this paper. Interest in this ms. was enhanced by the unexpected discovery of a later addition totalling 43 pages of 16^th-17^th century musical text in the Koukouzelian notation in clear-cut contrast in both musical and codicological terms to the bulk of the ms., written in 14^th century middle-Byzantine notation.
