Romanian Sources of Hieromonk Macarie's Heirmologion-Kalophonikon

Research work done on ms. I of Chisinau allows approaches to an essential aspect of the Romanian character the chants acquired in time, an aspect that musicologists seem not to have been particularly interested in. This aspect refers to revealing the Greek sources that served as model to the Romanian translators.

A comparison between chants found in ms. I/4/2119 with the Romanian chants in Macarie's Heirmologion-Kalophonikon of 1833 proves that the great Romanian reformer must have used such Greek codices as sources for his "translation" work.

This is a vast subject area and further research is expected to expand presently available information in the future.
