A Byzantine Chant Manuscript from the Library of Timotei Cipariu
In their A Byzantine Chant Manuscript from the Library of Timotei Cipariu the authors, two undergraduate students of the Academy of Music of Cluj-Napoca, submit their research data concerning an unknown – and rare – manuscript of Byzantine music, an "irmologhion" written in the Chrysanthine notation and with literary text in the Greek language, which found its way to Transylvania probably in early 19th century. It is a contribution to obtaining a better understanding of the impact Chrysanthus' reform had on the evolution of music of the Orthodox Church in Transylvania in the 19th century, and possibly on the role played by Timotei Cipariu, the scholar, in those developments.
