Authors of Manuscripts in the Byzantine Tradition in the Monastery of Noul Neamt

The collection of manuscripts of the monastery of Noul Neamt is made up of fifteen Byzantine musical manuscripts. Part of these manuscripts found their way to the monastery of Neamt after a group of monks moved here from Neamt Monastery, thus laying the ground stone for the future collection.

This important collection of manuscripts in Byzantine notation includes various works, dating back to the first and the third quarters of the 19th century. These works include chants in Romanian (using the Cyrillic alphabet) and Greek in the Chrysanthic notation.

The list mentioned in the fifteen manuscripts includes forty-five authors whose works were made popular by a number of Romanian and Greek manuscripts largely used in the liturgical service.

The authors of the chants included in these manuscripts belong to a period of gradual development of the Byzantine music from the 13th up to the 19th century. Among these authors are to be found some who contributed to the development of Byzantine music in general, and some other Greek and Romanian authors who were especially active in the Romanian countries.
